Project Description
The management team of KB was appointed to project manage and deliver a major greenfield underground long mine development valued at $520m over a 4-year period. This was a mutli-disciplined project, involving roads, rail, bulk earthworks, civil construction, tunnelling, mechanical conveying/handling and high voltage electrical systems. This project was delivered by over 250 personnel on time and on budget, with no serious injuries or equipment damage recorded. A summary of the project components are listed below:

600,000 m3 box cut bulk excavation, including blasting
20,000 m2 of box cut concrete stabilisation, including installation of mine portal entries
3.6 km balloon loop railway housed in 15 m deep cutting and connected. Included turnouts to the North West rail branch
Construction of 4 of polylined evaporation dams with capacity of 750 ML
Negotiation and construction of 28 km of 66 kV high voltage powerline supply and substations
Raw/fire water reticulation system
Workshop, stores and administration buildings
4500 t/ hr drift conveyor and ROM skyline stackout conveyor system
5500 t/ hr (3 valve) product and precision train loadout facility
3 x 1100 m drifts to intersect coal seam
